Announcment : Coming Soon: Volleyball Tournament (Uncle "JAY" Rolling Cup) - Oct 13 & 14 Sneham Talent Show : Dec 01 & 08
To relive our childhood memories of being fed by our mothers or sharing a meal with our loved ones under a moon-lit sky, Tamil sneham organizes trips on or near Full-Moon Day for an evening of picnic at the beach to share a meal together with Sneham friends and enjoy a time of fun and fellowship. Games and entertainment are part of the evening program in addition to sumptuous food brought by each participant for the potluck dinner. Fresh snacks and other favorite foods are cooked on-site over the grill.
Over one hundred people participated in our first "Nila Choru" on March 26, 2011 at Madiera Beach, FL and the second picnic at the same location on August 13, 2011.
The following is an excerpt from an earlier Tamil Sneham communication after the second 'Nila Choru":
"A beautiful and less-crowded sandy beach, clear skies and a warm summer day made an ideal backdrop for Tamil Sneham's Moonlight Picnic ("Nila Choru' ) last Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Madeira beach, FL. The warm and steamy weather did not discourage adults and children alike to wade into the quiet surf, play soccer on the beach or indulge in just socializing. Everyone with a camera captured the moment in pictures to help reminisce the experience later. The events at the shelter proved to be even more enjoyable than the earlier stroll on the beach.
Without minding the muggy weather, everyone had a good time at the shelter feasting on the hot and tasty 'vadai' prepared fresh at the shelter and sharing the potluck dinner with plentiful items pleasing the palate. (The freshly-made "fish fry" was a smash hit among the non-vegetarians). The entertainment that followed tested the knowledge of the audience on Tamil cinema (both vintage as well as modern). The kids had fun playing basket-ball nearby. New friendships were made. The picnic came to a close with the serving of hot tea, again prepared on-site, before everyone called it a night.
We take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in this memorable and novel experience and made it an event to remember. The organizers never had an inkling that their effort could elicit such an enormous response, even though this is their second "Nila Choru' in five months. We appreciate the help of many who volunteered to prepare food, conduct games and clean the picnic grounds. The enthusiasm and cooperation of the participants are a source of inspiration and strength for all of us at Tamil Sneham. When we say "thank you", it is truly an understatement. "
